I just got a mail in my inbox from the SPCA....

Here's the story of jasmine the greyhound. well maybe not all dogs are bad after all.

In 2003, police in Warwickshire , England , opened a garden shed and found a whimpering, cowering dog. It had been locked in the shed and abandoned. It was dirty and malnourished, and had clearly been abused.

In an act of kindness, the police took the dog, which was a Greyhound female, to the nearby Nuneaton Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary, run by a man named Geoff Grewcock and known as a willing haven for Animals abandoned, orphaned or otherwise in need.

Geoff and the other sanctuary staff went to work with two aims to restore the dog to full health, and to win her trust. It took several weeks, but eventually both goals were achieved.

They named her Jasmine, and they started to think about finding her an adoptive home.

But Jasmine had other ideas. No-one remembers now how it began, but she started welcoming all Animal arrivals at the sanctuary. It wouldn't matter if it was a puppy, a fox cub, a rabbit or, any other lost or hurting Animal, Jasmine would peer into the box or cage and, where possible, deliver a welcoming lick.

Geoff relates one of the early incidents. "We had two puppies that had been abandoned by a nearby railway line. One was a Lakeland Terrier cross and another was a Jack Russell Doberman cross. They were tiny when they arrived at the centre and Jasmine approached them and grabbed one by the scruff of the neck in her mouth and put him on the settee. Then she fetched the other one and sat down with them, cuddling them."

"But she is like that with all of our animals, even the rabbits. She takes all the stress out of them and it helps them to not only feel close to her but to settle into their new surroundings.

"She has done the same with the fox and badger cubs, she licks the rabbits and guinea pigs and even lets the birds perch on the bridge of her nose."

Jasmine, the timid, abused, deserted waif, became the animal sanctuary's resident surrogate mother, a role for which she might have been born. The list of orphaned and abandoned youngsters she has cared for comprises five fox cubs, four badger cubs, 15 chicks, eight guinea pigs, two stray puppies and 15 rabbits.

And one roe deer fawn. Tiny Bramble, 11 weeks old, was found semi-conscious in a field. Upon arrival at the sanctuary, Jasmine cuddled up to her to keep her warm, and then went into the full foster mum role. Jasmine the greyhound showers Bramble the Roe deer with affection and makes sure nothing is matted.

"They are inseparable," says Geoff "Bramble walks between her legs and they keep kissing each other. They walk together round the sanctuary. It's a real treat to see them."

Jasmine will continue to care for Bramble until she is old enough to be returned to woodland life. When that happens, Jasmine will not be lonely. She will be too busy showering love and affection on the next Orphan or victim of abuse.

From left, Toby, a stray Lakeland dog; Bramble, orphaned Roe deer; Buster, a stray Jack Russell; a dumped rabbit; Sky, an injured barn owl; and Jasmine with a Mothers heart doing best what a caring Mother would do... Such is the order of God's Creation.

i was bitten by a dog.

on friday.

the wound still hurts. but not so much anymore.

it happened all so fast... one minute it was a happy little dog, the next second it bit me.

***

okay, well, it was not a happy 'little' dog... but a big bad mutt. maybe it's my fault because I wasn't being careful. it's just that i can't imagine a dog biting me, you know?... because that would mean it's a bad dog, wouldn't it? i mean aren't all dogs supposed to be nice? wasn't it supposed to be my best friend?

so i let my guard down. i let it sniffed my hand, thinking like all the other dogs i knew, it would start licking, get my scent, and knew that i was safe, a friend. Then it'll be a friend in return.

Apparently it didn't turn out this way.

It probably just thought what is this stupid girl doing, putting her hand in front of me like that? her hand's such a good piece of meat. Hmm... *drool uncontrollably* maybe i'll just take a bite *evil snigger* and *chomp!*

Luckily I managed to pull my hand away in time so the damage wasn't as bad as it should be. Yeah, the wound looked horrible at first. Three jagged lines at the base of my middle and ring fingers on my right hand. The wound was purple, swollen and oozing blood. Not a pretty sight. Very icky in fact. It might have hurt alot but I wasn't aware of the pain because I was just shocked. The dog actually bit me! How could it? It looked so adorable! That day, the dog not only bit away a few pieces of skin cells and some flesh, but also my inherent trust in dogs and my belief that all dogs are nice..

I thought it was the cutest and nicest dog I've seen, with its nice white coat of fur and strong body... so perhaps I was just too blind to see the signs that were there... he was a different type from the other dogs in the pet shop, and plus, he was separated from the other dogs in a great big metal cage. maybe he's an alcoholic dog, or a chain smoking dog, or a compulsive liar doggie. or a psychopatic mutt. watever it is, the other dogs avoided him like the plague.

The Indonesian maid in the shop at that time didn't even offer help. No one was there to help me and I had to nurse my wound myself. I was upset and hoped that someone would help me but no... somehow I knew what to do... I put the wound under running water and washed it with soap to get rid of all bacteria, viruses or whatever, and just let it dry. It hurts a lot but I just ignored the pain and went on with my activities as usual.

The last time I looked (a few seconds ago haha) the wound seems to be healing well, and now it's nothing more than 6 tiny scabs on pinkish flesh. My trust in dogs though, will need a few more days to be restored. Anyways, it's my own misjudgement and my peanut brains that made a tiny part of my hand turn into dog food.

!i will be more careful in the future!

and maybe I should also get a tetanus shot, just in case.
